Austin Zoo Background

I have to give some background on the Austin Zoo. This is not your typical zoo, it is far from it. Alot of people tend to think that zoos are inhumane and feel bad for the animals in them, thinking that these poor creatures need to be in their original habitat. I agree, but what they fail to realize is that there are hundreds of other environments in which these animals can be placed that are far worse than any zoo in the U.S. This is where the Austin Zoo comes into the picture. Almost every animal in this zoo has been rescued in some way or another. This zoo is a private zoo. It receives no local, state, or federal funding of any kind. It relies on sponsors, donations, and visitors to the zoo. Each animal cage has the story of the animal and how it came to the zoo along with a plaque that lists sponsor names for each animal. If any one comes across this page that donates to causes like this please go to the website and check it out. They can use any and all help they can get. It is truly a wonderful thing that they are doing for all the animals they care for.

Intelligence

My favorite Capuchin. He had the most personality of all it seemed. He would stick his arm through the wires to touch our hands. I believe he used to be someones pet.

Capuchin Monkeys. These poor guys were once test subjects at some Oregon Research Center.

Bambi.

I think this is a Lemur.

I never knew lions had spots. Maybe it's like the new Ligers or Zonkeys... A Lipord.

Fuzzy Chicken...Oh Yeah

Peek-a-Boo

I don't remember what type of snake this is. I'll find out though from the reptile man down the road (Hi Jim..lol) and change this post when I do.
